Workers Know Your History, State Murders.

The dark days of Spain's fascist dictator Franco, should not be forgotten. His regime brutally put down any any left-wing opposition in the country by, prison, torture and execution. The last executions carried out under his regime was on September 27, 1975, when 5 individuals were executed by firing squad. Franco died two months later, and some dark clouds lifted from the country of Spain.
From Wikipedia:
The last use of capital punishment in Spain took place on 27 September 1975 when two members of the armed Basque nationalist and separatist group ETA political-military and three members of the Revolutionary Antifascist Patriotic Front (FRAP) were shot dead by firing squads after having been convicted and sentenced to death by military tribunals for the murder of policemen and civil guards. Spain was Western Europe's last dictatorship at this time and had been unpopular and internationally isolated in the post-war period due to its relations with Nazi Germany in the 1930s and the fact that the authoritarian Spanish leader, Francisco Franco, had come to power by overthrowing a democratically elected government. As a result, the executions resulted in substantial criticism of the Spanish government, both domestically and abroad. Reactions included street protests, attacks on Spanish embassies, international criticism of the Spanish government and diplomatic measures, such as the withdrawal of the ambassadors of fifteen European countries.

This was the last use of the death penalty in Spain; following the death of Francisco Franco, two months later, no further executions took place. The 1978 Spanish Constitution largely abolished the death penalty, with the exception of limited cases in times of war, and these exceptions were abolished in 1995. In 2012, a Basque Government commission found that the processes used to convict two of those executed had violated their rights and awarded compensation to their families.

Rape And The Death Penalty.

Where rape merits the death penalty--- for the victim!!
In August, a pregnant Ethiopian immigrant was lured into an empty flat by seven men, who held her there against her will and subjected her to a brutal gang-rape. They recorded the assault, and the video went viral online, drawing the attention of the authorities. How did the police react to this footage? By arresting the victim and throwing her in jail for "indecent behavior."
Now, things have gone from bad to worse. The Attorney General of Sudan has refused to prosecute the rapists, and has announced that he will pursue the death penalty for the victim in the case. Even if the victim isn't found guilty, Sudan's laws won't allow a new trial based on the evidence being used against her -- meaning that she will never be able to get justice.
Care2 member Lisabeth has started a petition to bring public pressure on Sudan's government. Let's show Sudan that the world is watching, and we won't stand by while a woman already traumatized by a brutal crime is punished for seeking justice.

Thank you for your support,

The State And Human Sacrifice.

State officials sit in marble halls and decide a human being must die, this is justified by adhering to some man made code, they call it justice. In ancient times they took a human life to appease their chosen God, and we call it human sacrifice, what's the difference? The sad and abhorrent aspect of this cruel, brutal and barbaric act is that it is advocated and carried out by human beings, people with names and addresses, families and friends, and they walk among us without any display of blood on their hands and a justification that they are only doing their duty. To advocate the killing of a human being in a cold blooded frame of so called rationalism is nothing more or less than savage barbarism.
The following is an appeal from Amnesty International.
 Warren Hill

Amnesty International UK Home
Amnesty International UK

Warren Hill is scheduled to be executed on Monday 15th July. Please act now.
The US State of Georgia is set to put Warren to death by lethal injection on Monday at 7pm (midnight UK time), despite the fact seven doctors have unanimously agreed that he is intellectually disabled - so executing him would be unconstitutional.
What’s more, the family of the man he was convicted of murdering and several jurors at his trial have said they don’t want him to be executed. We desperately need your support to ensure the US Supreme Court intervenes to stop this injustice.
Take Action

-->
If Warren’s execution goes ahead, the Georgia authorities would be ignoring the wishes of the victim, Joseph Handspike’s, family. They would be ignoring several jurors at his 1991 trial who said they would have sentenced Warren to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole had it been an option, which it was not. They would be going against the medical opinion of seven doctors who examined Warren and unanimously agreed that he has intellectual disabilities.
And they would be going against the US Constitution. In 2002, the US Supreme Court ruled that executing people with intellectual disabilities was a cruel and unusual punishment and therefore banned under the 8th amendment.
It’s down to the individual state to prove who is intellectually disabled, and Georgia requires proof ‘beyond reasonable doubt’, higher than any other US state. Warren was not found to meet this standard, but since then three doctors who gave evidence have changed their minds, and are now among the seven who believe he is intellectually disabled. Warren has already come within hours of death at the hands of the state. Eighteen people have been executed in the US so far this year. Please take action today to ensure that he is not the nineteenth.
The death penalty is the ultimate cruel, inhuman and degrading punishment. One day we’ll get the whole world to abolish it, but until then we need your support to fight it, one injustice at a time.
Thank you for your continued support. Please forward this email on - we need as many people as possible to speak out today.

Beheading And Other State Murders.

With so many weird opinions floating around on the internet, I had to convince myself while reading this article on Jadaliyya, on the death penalty in Saudi Arabia, that it was indeed irony.

Even though “[t]he beheading issue has always been a source of tension between Saudi Arabia and the international community,” the international community is not satisfied with this new approach. Having a whole bunch of people stand in front of a man, look directly at him as others are watching, and fire directly at him, is just so passé and, in the final analysis, not just inhumane, but also (please don’t let any children who watch CNN read this next word) graphic. Why can’t the Saudi Government kill in a civilized manner like the U.S. government does, with drones. Let someone else clean up the mess. And you don’t have to face your victims (and their families/neighbors/walkers by) after killing them. The Mideast policy preferences of the two countries almost mirror each other, so why not take them a step further? After all, what can go wrong with killing criminals and terrorists?

A CRIME AGAINST HUMANITY.

America is seen as the dominant capitalist country in the world, and it follows that, by being the prison capital of the world. America had, according to the U.S. Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS), 2,266,800 adults incarcerated in U.S. federal and state prisons, and county jails at year-end 2010 – about 0.7% of adults in the U.S. resident population. This is way more than Russia and more than China, which is a country with a quarter of the earth's population.  The American prison population really started to rocket into stratospheric regions from the 1980's onward. It now has more people caged up than all of the other developed countries put together. It is also supposed to be a country based on justice and freedom but still manages to pass sentences 100 years or more on people. Though violent crime had fallen in America between 1992 and 2003, life sentences have risen dramatically by 83% during the same period. The year 2012 saw 43 executions in America, a total of 1,320 since 1976. The prison system has been called a crime against humanity, the death penalty is no more and no less than authoritarian state murder.
Land of Freedom, leader of the free democratic world? Cage capital of the world!!!

On December 31st, at least 60 people responded to the call for a noise demo outside the Metropolitan Correctional Center (MCC) in downtown Manhattan. The crowd easily filled the street in front of the institution and an aural ruckus filled the air from noisemakers, voices, air horns, a variety of drums, and even a proper brass trumpet.
Anti-prison and anti-police chants from the crowd accompanied a banner reading "BURN THE PRISON SOCIETY." Rebels in the street cheered on the caged and excluded as they banged on their windows, flicked lights on and off, and gave other signals of life from within an otherwise deadening, lifeless building. We moved back and forth around the building to be sure everyone could hear our screams and tried to be as close as possible to the cell of anarchist hacker Jeremy Hammond as we chanted his name.
Let's make 2013 a terrifying year for capitalists and state operatives the world over and a joyous year for those seeking the triumph of life over death.

THEY CALL IT RELIGIOUS FREEDOM!!

        An appeal from Amnesty International.
Stoning.
It’s designed to cause maximum suffering. It generally takes between 20 minutes and two agonising hours to kill someone. Those sentenced to death are more likely to be poor and marginalised, particularly women.

And as you read this, 14 people in Iran are at risk of this inhumane death.

How to stone someone to death.
Stoning is mandatory under Iranian law for men and women convicted of ‘adultery while married’.
The Penal Code explains in chilling detail how to carry out the punishment, from how deeply to bury the victim in the ground to the size of the stones to use: not so large as to kill too quickly, not so small as to cause too little hurt.

How to help stop stoning.
However, right now the Iranian authorities are reviewing that very document - the Penal Code - which details all the country’s criminal law. They can and should remove stoning from it.
With your pressure we can encourage them to end this barbaric practice, once and for all.

Thank you,

Clare Bracey

SAVE TROY DAVIS.

50 Years. Amnesty International.

An appeal from Amnesty International, this could be our last
chance the life of Troy Davis.
A judge in the US state of Georgia has ordered the execution
of Troy Davis to take place on Wednesday 21 September 2011.
After 20 years on death row, Troy has exhausted every avenue
for appeal from the state level to the Supreme Court. We now
 have only one hope: clemency.
The Georgia parole board meets on Monday 19 September.
They could decide to allow Troy’s execution to go ahead as
scheduled – or they could grant clemency and therefore commute
his sentence to life in prison or life without parole.
This is Troy’s last chance to avoid execution.
grant clemency
Over 300,000 of you have already signed a global petition for
Troy, and many more have written to him personally over the years.
But right now we must continue to remind the state of Georgia
that in a matter of life and death there is no room for doubt -
and there are massive doubts in this case:
No physical evidence links Troy to the crime of which he was
convicted.
Seven of the nine non-police witnesses on whose evidence
he was convicted have since recanted or contradicted their testimony.
Many witnesses stated they were pressured or coerced by police.
Nine individuals have signed affidavits implicating an alternative suspect.
As long as there is hope we must continue to fight – for Troy, for his
family, for his fundamental human right to life and to be spared this
ultimate cruel, inhuman and degrading punishment.
These are dark days for Troy and all of us who have supported
him over the years – but remember: execution is not inevitable.
I will be in touch soon to update you on events and any other ways
you can help. However, for now it is essential that you
Time is fast running out for Troy.
In hope,

WRONGLY CONVICTED.

There are lots of reasons why there should be no such thing as the death penalty. There is the cold blooded barbarity of deciding to kill someone, preparing the site for the killing, people and method being selected to do the killing and the actual act of someone or group actually carrying out the killing. Then of course there is the fact of giving someone or institution the right to life or death over another human being, but above all that, there is the catalogue of innocent people who have spent years in prison for crimes they did not commit and those executed who were later proved to be innocent.
The following is just a very small list from America of those who were convicted of crimes they never committed,a is not unique in this field, here in the UK we have had innumerable case of people serving years in prison for crimes they never committed, thankful, in the UK we don't have the death penalty.

The U.S. justice system is far from perfect, and the evidence is all in the numbers. According to the Innocence Project, there have been 273 post-conviction DNA exonerations in the United States, and 17 of these people have served time on death row. Some of these cases happened when DNA testing wasn’t available, and others were caused by human and systematic errors, but either way, these innocent inmates have paid an unfortunate price. Here are 10 infamous inmates who were wrongly convicted.

THE WORLD'S MOST BRUTAL ORGANISATION - THE STATE.

As far as organisations and institutions go, there is none more brutal nor causes more deaths than the state. With it endless wars killing millions across the globe, all sanctioned as legal by the state apparatus. Then there are the thousands of executions that go on a daily basis, legalised killing by an organisation that attempts to weild supreme power over everybody. Innocent or guilty, no man has the right to take another man's life and it is just men that order and carry out the killing. It may get all dressed up in the trappings of power, ritual and ceremony, but at the end of the day it is just other men killing other men. This mythical thing the state, becomes more powerful than the people it is meant to serve. There is no place for legal murder in any civilised society.

On March 28, 2011, the US Supreme Court failed to take up the appeal of Troy Anthony Davis, the Savannah, Ga. man whose scheduled execution has been halted three times in the past because of the growing evidence and public belief in his innocence. AND NOW HIS EXECUTION HAS BEEN SET FOR WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 21.

Troy Davis is an African American on death row in Georgia. Davis was convicted in the 1989 killing of a police officer despite what Amnesty International calls "overwhelming doubts about his guilt." No physical forensic evidence was presented at Davis' trial, and 7 of the 9 non-police witnesses have recanted their testimony, with at least two saying they were pressured by police to finger Davis as the killer.

On March 28, 2011, the US Supreme Court failed to take up the appeal of Troy Anthony Davis, the Savannah, Ga. man whose scheduled execution has been halted three times in the past because of the growing evidence and public belief in his innocence. I join with millions in the US and around the world in demanding that you stop the execution of Troy Davis. Serious doubt remains. I call on all those with authority and influence in this decision to grant clemency to Troy Anthony Davis and overturn the death sentence.
